The only thing more amazing than visiting Odzala – and if you haven’t, you must – is being able to call it home. Time flies when you’re having fun in the forest and December at last gave us a chance to sit on the stream deck at Ngaga, our feet trailing in the crystal-clear waters. We might have indulged in an ice-cold beer or two (yes, it’s green and warm here at this time of year!) as we reminisced about the year that’s just ended. From the marvellous to the mouth-watering to massive rainstorms, it was certainly a year to write home about.

We’re anticipating that 2017 will be even better – surely you don’t want to miss out on sharing some awesome Odzala moments like these?

Travelling far and wide to spread the ecotourism message

This year, as well as exploring new corners of Odzala, we travelled to some exciting destinations. We were on a mission to spread the word about Odzala, and the best place to do that is at travel shows. Happily, the travel industry knows how to pick a destination!

We travelled to Berlin, Cape Town, Durban and Marrakech, not to mention hitting the streets of Brazzaville and Point Noire, telling people about how wonderful and exciting Odzala is. We were thrilled to see just how much of a buzz there is about Odzala, and to hear that many people share our view that it is the new off-the-beaten-track destination.

We had a lot of exciting news to share, not least the fact that during 2016, all of the Odzala camps received upgrades to their solar electricity generating systems, meaning that our footprint in the Congo Basin is now lighter than ever. Lango Camp’s transformation from a fully-fledged camp with a large staff contingent to a much smaller, more focused operation means that we can now offer you an exclusive bai experience with a far lesser impact on this fragile ecosystem.

We’re constantly developing new activities so that when you visit, you’ll be able to explore Odzala in exciting and innovative ways. Safari experiences unlike anything else in Africa could just mean that you work up quite an appetite – perfect for when you sample our delicious new menus. They now feature more local influences and ingredients, and, as one recent guest described it, “the best damn chocolate mousse in the world”!
